Think Globally – Act Locally: Developing Talent in Asia

Over the past three decades, Applied has established a significant presence in Asia and now has business operations with global and regional responsibilities in nine Asian countries. With more than 75 percent of revenues coming from customers in Asia, it is critical for Applied to attract and retain top talent to maintain our leadership edge and to meet rapid market expansion in this region.

To meet these demanding resource needs, Applied has taken bold steps to accelerate workforce and leadership development while adapting local practices into our global corporate culture to build a robust leadership framework.

One of Applied’s key business strategies is to attract and retain top local talent. As a multinational business, it is advantageous for Applied to leverage regional geographic and economic amenities as well as hire top local talent. This localization approach to business expansion is especially true in Asia where the company has experienced significant growth.

In addition to Applied’s regional human resources and development and learning departments, we established an Asian Human Resources Centre of Excellence in Singapore to take advantage of the cosmopolitan city’s rich blend of East and West cultures.

With operations in 20 countries, Applied is inherently rich with diversity and talent. We believe that local leadership is essential to rapid and sustainable growth. In addition to being global in nature, Applied leaders need to understand and relate to the local environment, while effectively leading a local team. Applied hires and develops leaders who can “think globally and act locally”.

To promote leadership growth in Asia where there is a great diversity of people and business operations, Applied provides training through a global talent development framework and then adapts and optimizes training for local conditions and business intents. Our key focus areas of development include continuing education, intra-Asia rotational opportunities and exposure to global functions.
