Materials Engineering in the Spotlight at SEMICON West 2016

PCs and smartphones may have given way to artificial intelligence and virtual reality as the latest drivers of technology in Silicon Valley, but the region still relies heavily on its roots – silicon and other materials – to drive innovation as chipmakers race to keep up with increasingly complex computing requirements.
At the upcoming SEMICON West show (July 12-14 in San Francisco), Applied Materials will take part in several presentations and panel discussions that showcase how materials engineering, which we define as creating and modifying materials at an atomic level and on an industrial scale, is enabling technology inflections that will unlock new capabilities in processing performance and efficiency.
We will also be speaking about two topics that continue to generate lots of attention – Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT) – and the impact they are having on semiconductor manufacturing. Applied’s  CFO, Bob Halliday, will moderate a panel of Wall Street analysts, in what should be a lively discussion about the current state of the semiconductor industry and the outlook for the future.
