Mary Humiston Among Silicon Valley "Women of Influence"
Congratulations to Applied Materials group vice president for Human Resources Mary Humiston, who was named one of the Silicon Valley Business Journal's "2011 Women of Influence" as one of 100 women from the public, private and nonprofit sectors who are working to improve their industries and communities. Last year, Applied board member Susan James was also recognized with this honor.
At Applied, Mary plays a critical role in an organizational transformation that requires the company to attract, retain and inspire the best possible talent around the world. She and her team are driving key initiatives including manager excellence, leadership development, and employee engagement to re-invent the way Applied Materials enables its workforce, and reinforce HR's role as a critical business partner to the company’s continued success.
In the community, Mary serves on the board of directors for Second Harvest, where last week Applied was honored for outstanding innovation and creativity in employee food drive efforts and for providing more than 20 Million Pounds of food through employee donations and a Foundation match. Mary is always the first to step up and volunteer for Applied fund raisers internally and externally, such as last winter's Helping Hands Day and HR Spaghetti Feed employee events, which benefitted our annual employee Food Drive. She is also an advocate of charities focused on education and removing ignorance.
Last year Mary and Applied were both recognized by Profiles in Diversity Journal with the publication's 2011 WomenWorthWatching® Award, where Applied was honored for demonstrating a commitment to advancing women in leadership.
