As we wrap up 2016, it is an ideal time to reflect on the accomplishments of Applied teams around the world who have demonstrated a commitment to the company’s core value of operating with responsibility and integrity. We are proud of our volunteer engagements and strategic grantmaking that make a positive contribution in numerous communities near our global offices, and are humbled to be recognized for key activities in the last year. Following are a few examples.
In Singapore, social responsibility highlights include organizing food drives to benefit Food from the Heart, supporting programming at the Science Centre Singapore, and promoting STEM and environmental sustainability education for youth at the Community Development Council (NECDC) – one of the five Community Development Councils in Singapore that administers financial and employment assistance to residents in need. These efforts resulted in Applied receiving the prestigious People’s Association Community Spirit (PACS) Excellence Award 2016. This annual award is conferred on select organizations that have demonstrated remarkable service to their communities by supporting the efforts of the People’s Association and its partner organizations, Community Development Councils and grassroots leaders in building social capital and promoting communal spirit.
German employees took to the streets in September organizing the first Bike to Work Day that raised funds for Sonnenstrahl, a charity providing services to children with cancer and their families. Local Applied management donated money for each kilometer an employee rode resulting in a cleaner environment, the opportunity for employee engagement across offices in Alzenau, Dresden and Munich, and a donation to the benefitting charity.
On the eastern shore of the United States, Project Open Door – the primary food bank in Gloucester, MA – presented their 2016 “Unsung Hero Award” to Applied Materials. Noting that the company “has been an amazing partner with an employee team working tirelessly throughout the years on food drives and events,” the recognition reflects our commitment to helping improve the lives of those who are hungry in communities near Applied facilities.
Applied and its employees are honored to support select NGOs and charities around the world that are impacting issues of local importance. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with these organizations to help shape the future of communities where our employees work and live.
