Applied Materials Mourns the Loss of Gary Fazzino
Applied Materials is deeply saddened by the passing of Gary Fazzino on Tuesday evening after a long battle with cancer. Gary joined Applied Materials as Vice President, Government Affairs in July 2009 after a long and successful career at Hewlett-Packard Company. In addition to serving as a government affairs executive in the private sector, Gary was a dedicated public servant in Palo Alto, serving on the City Council from 1977 to 1981 and from 1989 to 2002. He was elected Mayor of Palo Alto in 1992 and again in 1999.
"Gary’s passing is a tremendous loss to Applied Materials and to the community. He was a respected leader both in Silicon Valley and in Washington, D.C., and will be sorely missed," said Mike Splinter, chairman and CEO of Applied Materials.
"For those of us who knew and worked with Gary, he was a mentor and a great friend. Gary was an outstanding leader for the Silicon Valley community, and we are all incredibly grateful for the opportunity to know and work with him," added Joe Pon, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs of Applied Materials. “Gary leaves a legacy of public service and community leadership based on across-the-aisle collaboration and friendship."
At Applied Materials, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Annette, children and other family members.
