Applied Materials Celebrates a Decade of Excellence in India
Applied Materials employees and associates gather to form the Applied Materials logo.
This month marks an exceptional milestone for the Applied Materials India team; we’ve reached our 10th anniversary in the region — we’ve come a long way since our humble beginnings in 2002! Several key executives, including Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mike Splinter; Chief Financial Officer, George Davis; Executive Vice President and General Manager for the Silicon Systems Group, Randhir Thakur, and Chief Technology Officer, Om Nalamasu, joined us to celebrate our journey and discuss the company’s strategy.
Celebrations included customer activities including a panel discussion on technology differentiation for enabling solar manufacturing in India, which brought together leading experts from both academia and the solar industry; as well as community initiatives such as a Walk for Thalassemia and employee programs including a family day.
Over the last decade, Applied Materials India, the second largest engineering center for Applied Materials, has changed and grown to a team of more than 1,000. Additionally, the India team has made several key contributions that have pushed the engineering envelope with products that deliver higher performance. We’ve pioneered a university partnership research model in India through our collaboration with IIT Bombay. We have broken ground on a budding R&D semiconductor and nanoelectronics ecosystem and have engaged with major solar manufacturers. We’ve invested in local communities through collaborations with SELCO, the Digital Equalizer Program, Akshaya Patra and others, all in an effort to improve lives through the use of clean energy, education and fostering civic responsibility. It has been a tremendous journey, one that we’re looking forward to taking to the next level. The call to action for the Applied Materials India team is to continue to collaborate across the company’s Israel, U.S. and Singapore R&D offices to help resolve issues quicker and boost on-wafer performance, strengthen our engineering capability in key areas and innovate in adjacent markets with winning new products.
I am excited about the future — delivering increased value to existing and emerging market opportunities and can’t wait to see what the next 10 years has in store for us.
