Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) and Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) hearing about Applied Materials’ solar technology from Mark Pinto the company’s chief technology officer.

Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) and Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) visited Applied Materials to learn about the company’s solar technology business and solar policy initiatives.

Both senators believe an investment in green energy is needed to help create the jobs of the future and to tackle one of the biggest challenges of our time; global warming. As members of the Environment and Public Works Committee, Senator Carper and Senator Merkley have been working to craft a bill that will create clean energy jobs, reduce air pollution and reduce the country's dependence on coal and foreign oil.

Applied Materials strongly supports both Senator’s efforts to pass an energy bill during this Congressional session. While countries like China and India are pouring resources into the development of clean energy technology, the United States (U.S.) remains on the sidelines. In order to remain competitive in this global market and restore America’s long-term economic stability, the U.S. should begin transitioning to a clean energy economy by investing in the types of manufacturing technology solutions offered by Applied Materials.
