EE Times published an excellent, in-depth overview of the Light Emitting Diode (LED) industry in the September 21 Special Edition. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the fast growing LED market. This survey article is unique in that it is only available in the EE Times on-line reader format so you must click on the link when connected to the internet. More importantly, the EE Times addresses many of the issues currently facing the general adoption of solid state lighting in both High Brightness LED (HB LED) and Organic LED (OLED) forms. I particularly enjoyed the discussion and pictures of lighting color and how HB LED manufacturers are providing user controls allowing the adjustment from warm tungsten style to the cool light of a florescent with the flick of a switch. Solid state lighting solves so many problems with tungsten and even compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) starting with a significantly lower power consumption, instant-on illumination, elimination of mercury contamination and user control of the color of light. I hope you enjoy this article.
