Display Trends for 2017 and Beyond
Judging by the exhibits at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, there’s no doubt that innovation is alive and well in the display industry. Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) technology is extending beyond mobile device displays as several major consumer brands showcased stunning OLED TVs on the show floor. The increased adoption of OLED is happening outside the living room as well. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and augmented and virtual reality are creating demand for new form factor displays that can curve, bend and flex for use in autonomous vehicles, smart appliances and more.
We sat down with the head of marketing for Display and Flexible Technology at Applied Materials, Max McDaniel, to hear his thoughts on the hottest display trends at CES and what to expect from the display industry in 2017 and beyond. While the future is never certain, one thing is clear – there has never been a more exciting time to be a materials engineering company helping make possible tomorrow’s curved, bendable and foldable displays.
