Applied Celebrates Employee Commitment to Ethics
As Company Ombudsman, I’m proud to announce that Applied Materials has been named to the Ethisphere Institute’s “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list for the second year in a row. This award recognizes our global employees’ commitment to the highest ethical standards. Each of our more than 14,000 employees around the world should take pride in being part of a company that has modeled its core values on ethics and integrity since its founding over 45 years ago.
These core values are the foundation for Applied’s Standards of Business Conduct – one set of standards that, since their first adoption in 1993, has applied to each and every one of us globally. Over the years, the Standards have been updated to address new and evolving concerns (we certainly did not foresee for example, how far-reaching the brave new world of the Internet would become), but the fact that the Standards apply to all of us across the Company has not changed.
Company policies are only part of the picture. It’s up to each of us to make sure that Applied reflects a true culture of integrity. Our culture is based on actions and so many employees around the world have continuously demonstrated their commitment to an ethical culture.
This past year, the number of employees reaching out to the Office of the Ombudsman with questions or to make sure that situations are handled appropriately hit an all-time high. In the regions, country presidents championed our annual Ethics Day program through all-hands meetings, and employees displayed their enthusiasm by wearing Ethics Day t-shirts in group photos. Consistent with the principle that everyone in the Company is responsible for keeping our ethical culture strong, employees ranging from our CEO and our President to recently hired college graduates delivered all-employee video messages about what ethics means to them.
To recognize individual leadership and significant contributions to ethics at Applied, we recently awarded ethics champion stars to more than 130 employees and contractors, and spotlighted employees’ achievements for consideration in performance reviews through our Applied Achievement Award (A3) recognition program.
Congratulations again to every member of our global workforce for this well-deserved award. Going forward, let’s raise the bar even higher and deepen our commitment to doing the right thing and promoting a culture of integrity throughout Applied and in our dealings with others.
Ethics, Everyone, Every Day.
