Celebrating the Season of Giving
As we head into the holidays and count down the final days to a new year with new beginnings, we enter a fun and rewarding season of giving at Applied Materials. While we are continually inspired by our employees and their personal commitment to causes they care about, the fall brings a flurry of activity that allows each of us to connect with community issues and make an impact.
In November, we launched our annual North America Food Drive—which has grown to become one of the largest corporate food drives in North America—accumulating more than 25 million pounds of food over the years. It’s also one of the most prolific opportunities we have to demonstrate our commitment to Applied’s core value of responsibility and integrity.
This commitment was on full display at our 23rd annual “Helping Hands Day”—a long standing tradition at Applied Materials where this year nearly 300 employees and their families spent a Saturday morning at Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties packing 6,000 boxes of food for distribution to those in need.
Enthusiastic employees look forward to participating in this fast-paced and festive event to play their part in helping the thousands of hungry families needing food throughout the Bay Area, many of whom are families with children and seniors.
With a long history of being an active member of the Silicon Valley community, Applied is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot. Nearly 21,000 participants joined the 14th annual event on Thanksgiving morning, raising close to $1 million for five charities—Healthier Kids Foundation Santa Clara County, Housing Trust Silicon Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County, and The Health Trust.
Applied is equally proud to be a member of such a generous community that has raised more than $7.8M through 14 years of trotting. The Turkey Trot is a marvelous holiday tradition for our employees and neighbors. Thanks to everyone for coming out and helping us celebrate this season of giving. It’s never too early to join the fun—registration for the 2019 Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot is now open!
As the year winds down and you engage in your own holiday traditions, please consider joining Applied and our employees in learning how each of us can help build a more vibrant, compassionate community through impactful local philanthropy and personal engagement.
