Russell is the Regional President covering Applied Materials operations in South East Asia, an economic block half the size of China. He balances his operational responsibilities with advocating ASEAN countries to adopt a renewable energy roadmap to sustainable development.
Over the past three decades, Applied has established a significant presence in Asia and now has business operations with global and regional responsibilities in nine Asian countries. With more than 75 percent of revenues coming from customers in Asia, it is critical for Applied to attract and retain top talent to maintain our leadership edge and to meet rapid market expansion in this region.
The annual Clean and Green Singapore campaign, organized by the National Environment Agency and launched by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, is aimed at inspiring Singaporeans to care for and protect the living environment by adopting an Environmentally Friendly lifestyle. In its third year, the activities for 2011 focus on instilling a sense of pride and ownership of the environment in the community, to encourage Singaporeans to do their part in sustaining a clean and green Singapore.
Applied Materials South East Asia (AMSEA) hosted 50 high school students from the United Arab Emirates as part of the SEMI High Tech U program in Singapore, co-sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Government’s investment corporation, the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC) and Applied Materials.
Recently Applied Materials hosted a high-level solar delegation from Malaysia at our Santa Clara, California headquarters. Malaysia, like many other developing countries, is at a crossroad of deciding how to balance fast-growing energy needs with environmental concerns, energy security and economic development.
